I have to
produce a 60 second trailer for my game, Doom Vs Duke Nukem. I expect that my
trailer will feature either videos from the existing games or possibly a
section of the Doom film.
There is a 9
to 10 minute section of the extended version of the film where it is shot from
a first person perspective. Using bits of that I could cut bits of that
together and display it as in-game footage. The downsides to this are that Duke
will not feature at all or it will be incredibly jarring to go from game
footage to film footage and back again.
Whilst I think this could look really good with some overlaid writing at
various points I will basically have to mostly
leave Duke out of it which I don’t think I can do in the trailer.
For this
reason I will probably look at doing some stuff with game footage, either
captured by myself or possibly got from other sources. Especially if somebody
out there has managed to mod duke into the Doom engine or vice versa that would
make things easier for me.
If not I
will probably edit some clips from both games together and maybe look to not
show the HUD for either. I think there is an option to turn it off in the games
so if necessary I can take some footage myself using FRAPS with these turned
off. Both games have had stand alone new
3D engines developed for them to make the game environments into true 3D from
the pseudo 3D when they were both released. These have the added benefit of
being able to run these games using more up to date resolutions like 1920 x
1080 and utilising GPU effects such as anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing
to improve textures and remove jagged edges. These will “update” the look of
the games to make them more modern.
I have both
games on the newer engines so I can take some footage using FRAPS (a screen
capture tool)
and then
import that into Premiere to edit.
I will then
add some onscreen effects such as explosions with writing coming out to
emphasise the game features and round off with a few Duke one liners
interspersed throughout.
I think that
will work ok and should demonstrate the “game” to prospective buyers.
